For over 20 years the Coloma Watervliet Area Economic Development Corporation (CWAEDC) has been dedicated to improving the business climate, helping businesses remain healthy and grow and promote the area as a place to live, work and do business. The CWAEDC is now moving forward as a Community Development organization with the new name: North Berrien Community Development (NBCD).
North Berrien Community Development is made up of the six municipalities of Coloma City and Township, Watervliet City and Township and the townships of Bainbridge and Hagar. MISSION
North Berrien Community Development is organized for the specific and primary purpose of sustaining and improving the economic vitality of North Berrien County through developing family oriented communities with joint programs, services and regulatory alignment among the active municipalities.
GOAL
The desire of NBCD is to provide a framework through which changes in the economy of the region can be anticipated, influenced and monitored through a strategic plan leading to a more stable economic environment.
ISSUES
- Michigan's real/perceived business climate.
- Unemployment as a result of loss of industry and commerce to other states.
- Retention and expansion of existing business.
- Creation and attraction of new business.
